MegaUpload is gone

Well people we have a problem. MegaUpload got shut down. Some of my links were with RapidShare but most were with MegaUpload. This means almost all my links are dead now. I'm not happy about this especially since I had just uploaded a bunch of stuff and was about to post it here for your enjoyment.

Anyway I'm not going to stop but I don't want to post anything new until I get all the old posts working again and that will probably take a while.

Right now I'm not sure where I will be hosting the files. Obviously MegaUpload wasn't the only company offering file sharing services but I don't want to pick the wrong company again (not that anyone could have imagined this happening the way it did). I do have some ideas but if anyone would like to chime in on this then please do so.

Vampyros Lesbos

Today I present the wild and wacky world of Jess Franco. Back in 1995 a German label known as Lucertola made a bit of a splash when they released 3 FILMS BY JESS FRANCO (Lucertola Media LMCD 004). This very limited (only 500 copies) CD proved to be immensely popular. Around this same time Jess Franco's movie VAMPYROS LESBOS (1970) had gotten a nicely remastered VHS release in the UK. This VHS release included not only the movie of course but also a short "video" at the end featuring one of the songs from the movie (The Lions And The Cucumber). Apparently this was released in the UK as a 'single' and did rather well. I think that is when the Lucertola CD came out although I'm not sure if it came out beforehand or not. I'm going by memory here. All I know for sure is that everyone and his brother wanted this CD but there were only 500 copies. Now Lucertola was, as far as I know, a legit label although I believe they are no longer in business and/or no longer releasing new material. However this particular release was considered an "unofficial" or "bootleg" release. As a result more were not forthcoming.

Then another German label called Crippled Dick Hot Wax released their version on LP and CD which they called VAMPYROS LESBOS SEXADELIC DANCE PARTY but alas it did not include ALL of the music heard on the previous Lucertola CD release. However the CD was easy to come by and there was even an official US release by a label called Motel Records (this is the CD that I have and is exactly the same as the Crippled Dick Hot Wax German release). I should point out that in 2006 another release of this came out promising to be "remastered" and supposedly including 3 bonus tracks. I do not have nor have I heard this version with my own ears but the other earlier releases sound pretty darn awesome to my ears so I'm not sure how much better a remastering could make 'em (and I suspect such claims to be marketing hype but I can't say for sure as I don't have this 2006 release).

By the way I should add that VAMPYROS LESBOS finally got a very nice DVD release in the US by Synapse Films and then yet another DVD release later on by Image Entertainment so be sure to check it out!

The 3 FILMS BY JESS FRANCO is a CD rip that I found on-line. Whoever did it knew what they were doing. It is a proper EAC CD Rip complete with the EAC made LOG file and CUE Sheet file (and came in FLAC format). It also comes with complete CD artwork scans. The MP3 conversion was done using my usual methods and includes all the other files as well (the LOG and CUE and M3U and artwork scans). VAMPYROS LESBOS is my own CD Rip. Murder to the Tune of the Seven Black Notes (1977) aka Sette Note In Nero

Today I present the score to Lucio Fulci's SETTE NOTE IN NERO (1977). This one is known under a variety of other titles including: Murder To The Tune Of Seven Black Notes (my personal favorite), Seven Notes In Black (I believe the literal English translation) and The Psychic (the title used for the original US release). The score is by Bixio-Frizzi-Tempera (three musicians who often worked together and yes the Frizzi in there is Fabio Frizzi). The CD was released by Digitmovies (Catalog Code: CDDM062) in 2006.

This is a giallo by Lucio Fulci which he made prior to his gore drenched zombie years so it might disappoint some fans but it's still a fine film and has some grizzly moments. I'm a big fan (obviously) of Mr. Fulci and I have seen this film but only once and it was a long time ago. I need to see it again. I don't remember liking it as much as his earlier giallo efforts nor does this giallo outshine other, better films in the genre but it is a fine effort nonetheless and a good film. The stand out here is the score though so I hope you enjoy it. It really does help to "make" the film. Oh and if you didn't know already a key track from the score was used by Tarantino in his film KILL BILL VOL. 1

La Cripta E L'Incubo aka Crypt Of The Vampire

Today I present the score to LA CRIPTA E L'INCUBO (1963) by Carlo Savina. This film is known under a wide variety of titles but most know it as CRYPT OF THE VAMPIRE. The CD was released by Digitmovies (Catalog Code: CDDM182) back in March of 2011.

I've never seen this movie. I do know it's an Italian gothic horror film that is loosely based on Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's famous novella "Carmilla"

There was a DVD release back in 2006 that is still available and rather inexpensive. I'll have to pick it up one of these days.

I've only had a chance to listen to the CD once (I'm on my second listen right now as I type this up) so I'm not sure how to explain it other than it reminds me of the music from other Italian gothic horror films like Bava's BLACK SUNDAY etc. and while it is very different from the giallo scores that came later I am still enjoying it very much.

Today I present the score LAURE (1975) aka Forever Emmanuelle. The score is by Franco Micalizzi. The CD was released by Digitmovies (Catalog Code: CDDM133) in 2009.

I've never actually seen this movie although I recently downloaded a nice DVD rip via a bit torrent site so I plan on it but I can tell you that this is a great score and to date I think this is my favorite by composer Micalizzi. It sort of has a funky jazzy lounge like sound to it. Very mellow and relaxing but not boring in the least. Give it a try!

Well I got back on track a while back after a long spell of nothing and then ... again ... nothing.

Sorry about that!

I have a lot of stuff I want to post and so I just want to give a heads up that I'm going to try to get more regular here with my posts ... again ... and hopefully this time I'll stick to it.

I also want to point out that I've added a Pay Pal Donate button. Granted this blog costs me nothing but money is tight these days and I just can't buy new scores/soundtracks as I would like. So if you want to donate I can promise that the money will go towards buying new stuff which I will then post here.

Today I present the score Un'Ombra Nell'Ombra (1979) aka Ring Of Darkness. The score is by Stelvio Cipriani and the film is by Pier Carpi. The CD was released by Digitmovies (Catalog Code: CDDM052) in 2006. Some of you might appreciate that Claudio Simonetti played keyboards on this score!

I like this score a lot but I've never seen the movie. Apparently it is a rip off of The Exorcist with elements of The Omen and Rosemary's Baby (well at least according to one review that I read).

Today I present the score to a Jess Franco film. The score is by Bruno Nicolai and the film is EUGENIE DE SADE '70 (1970). Most of you probably know this better under the title of the DVD release: EUGENIE ... THE STORY OF HER JOURNEY INTO PERVERSION. What can I say? This is one of Jess Franco's better films and a great score by Bruno Nicolai. This CD Rip is from a 2005 release (Digitmovies CDDM 030) and is a 2 disc set!

Danger: Diabolik

Today I present a very rare CD to a very rare score. The film is Mario Bava's DANGER: DIABOLIK (1967) and the score is by Ennio Morricone. The CD was released in 2001 (Pallottola Foro OTHR-1968) and while it is a pressed CD it is technically a bootleg and not an officially sanctioned release. In fact this bootleg was subsequently bootlegged by another company. Go figure LOL

In terms of sound quality ... it's not bad but it's not great. Basically the master tapes are supposedly lost (although Morricone has said that if anyone can find them they are welcome to release the score). My understanding is that the score (as presented here) is mostly lifted from the movie itself. This does mean that there are some sound effects etc. mixed in with the music. Despite that the sound quality is pretty decent and the sound effects are minimal. Oh and there are a couple of tracks (at the end) that came from the only official release (a 45 release that came out when the movie did).

In short this is the best that we have and probably will be the best that we ever get ... unless the master tapes are ever found (at least one producer of Italian soundtracks has hinted that he has it although some believe that to be BS ... also some suspect that Morricone himself has the master tapes and is purposefully sitting on it). I suppose time will tell. Thankfully this CD is actually fairly well done and damn enjoyable.

Today I present the Nico Fidenco score to BLACK EMANUELLE (1975) aka EMANUELLE NERA starring the lovely Laura Gemser. I'm afraid I don't have much to say about the movie as I've never actually seen this one (although I've seen other Emanuelle films with Laura Gemser) but I can tell you that the score is a lot of fun! Killer Nun + The Mad Butcher + Lady Frankenstein

Today I present you with a CD that was requested some time ago. The CD in question came out in 1999 by Beat Records (catalog code: CDCR 52) and features the scores to three films. The films are SOUR OMICIDI (1978) aka KILLER NUN, LO STRANGOLATORE DE VIENNA (1971) aka THE MAD BUTCHER OF VIENNA, and last but not least LADY FRANKENSTEIN (1971). All three scores are by Alessandro Alessandroni.

Chi Sei? aka Beyond The Door

Today I present you with the Soundtrack to CHI SEI? (1974) aka BEYOND THE DOOR. This is an Italian rip-off of William Friedkin's THE EXORCIST (1973) yet it manages to be a very fun movie and the score, by Franco Micalizzi, is a lot of fun itself.

Now I've only seen the film once (and that was a long while ago) but the music, while cool as shit, really doesn't fit the movie very well. However as a listening experience the soundtrack is a lot of fun. It has a jazzy funky vibe to it. For a sample CLICK HERE to see a You Tube video of the main theme.

As far as I could tell this score only ever got a singular (and now long out-of-print) CD release on some Japanese label back in 2002. Luckily a friend of mine actually bought it when it came out and allowed me to rip it. Aren't friends great?

Today I bring you a CD released in 1998 by BEAT Records (catalog code CDCR 41). This single CD has three different scores on it. First up is Lucio Fulci's AENIGMA (1987) with music by Carlo Cordio. This is actually my favorite of the three. Second is Lucio Fulci's CONQUEST (1983) with music by Claudio Simonetti. The third score is also by Claudio Simonetti and it is for a Lamberto Bava film called MORIRAI A MEZZANOTTE (1986) but I must admit that I've never seen this movie.

ZOMBI 3

Today I bring you the soundtrack to the Lucio Fulci film ZOMBI 3 (1988) with music by Stefano Mainetti. This score was released on CD in 1996 by Beat Records (catalog code CDCR 33) and while there are some very embarrassing tracks here (that will make you cringe) there are also some very good tracks and overall I would say that it is an enjoyable if not fun listening experience. The movie though does not fare as well.

I vividly remember getting a VHS bootleg of the film back around 1989 or 1990 (it took years and years for the film to get a proper USA video release). As far as bootlegs go it was very nice in that it came with high quality full color artwork and the image/sound quality wasn't bad (in fact the company selling it claimed to own the rights to do so but that seemed shady at best). I remember watching the film and thinking, "OH MY GOD this is fucking horrible!" ... I refused to think that the film was actually bad. So I watched it again. Then again. In a week's time I must have watched it a total of four times. You know how sometimes you see a film and expectations are so high or you expect something different that you don't like it but then you watch it again and it "clicks" and you DO like it? Yeah well that never happened. The movie is a big stinking pile of shit. Plain and simple.

I won't bore you with all the details as I'm sure it is "out there" somewhere but basically according to the story 'ol Fulci did this one for the money and the producers claim he turned in a movie that was too short (supposedly 65 - 70 minutes as I recall). Hack Italian director Bruno Mattai (aka Vincent Dawn or the director behind the bad yet fun zombie film HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD) was brought in to shoot some additional footage. The film is still a bit short at roughly 84 minutes but there is a dispute as to how much is Fulci and how much is Mattai. According to some (Fulci himself) only about 15 minutes of that is footage shot by Fulci while others say that nearly all the film shot by Fulci (and therefore the bulk of the film's running time) was used. I'd like to think the former because while there are a (very) few Fulci-ish moments the bulk of the film is utter garbage but it is true that most of Fulci's work in the late 80's and early 90's were garbage (although not all i.e., A CAT IN THE BRAIN tends to work well as does HOUSE OF CLOCKS to an extent). In the end it is hard to know if one should point the finger at Fulci or Mattai but either way this film sucks donkey balls.

Now some people enjoy the film for the fact that it is so bad and over-the-top (one of many examples: a decapitated head sitting in a refrigerator manages to propel itself out and upwards through the air in order to bite a guy on the neck). Personally I've always had trouble with the "so bad it's good" concept. However as I stated the soundtrack is overall pretty good and enjoyable.

Finally we have what is the most rare yet best of all the ZOMBIE releases: the 2000 Comic Book Edition as released by Blackest Heart Media. This soundtrack CD came with the limited edition graphic novel adaptation of Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE written by Stephen Romano. The score has been remastered and is the best sounding of the bunch. There are also tracks of dialogue, radio spots, or sound effects from the movie (listed as "No Artist) and once again some rokOpera "tribute" tracks although ironically the one track that is "out of place" is the best (a cover version of Goblin's main theme to ALIEN CONTAMINATION aka CONNEXION).

Blood For Dracula & Flesh For Frankenstein

Today I present the scores to BLOOD FOR DRACULA (aka Andy Warhol's Dracula) and FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (aka Andy Warhol's Frankenstein). Both movies were made back to back around 1973/1974 by director Paul Morrissey and both are scored by Claudio Gizzi.

These two films have achieved cult status long ago and thanks to home video (especially the DVD format) they are readily accessible in proper widescreen uncut versions. So there isn't much that I can say that hasn't already been said but the one thing that I want to mention is this: why oh why do the "critics" always point out the Dracula film as the superior of the two? I simply don't understand it myself for it is very clear to me that the Frankenstein film is the superior film. Now don't get me wrong, I love them both, but there is something about the Frankenstein movie that just endears it to me. I think it boils down to the level of excess present in the Frankenstein film. Both movies have it but Frankenstein has more of it. The cinematography is more lush in general, the blood and gore is way over-the-top, Udo Kier's performance of the Baron is simply brilliant with constant wonderful moments that simply can't be matched by his performance of The Count (although the blood vomiting "The blood of these whores is killing me" part in Dracula comes close) and both films have a level of "sleaze" to them but again Frankenstein outdoes Dracula in this regard. So to the critics I say this: you are wrong! Although both are wonderful FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN is clearly the better of the two!

The CD release (seen above) came out in 1993 on the RCA label (catalog code RCA Records OST 119) and although it is a single CD it contains both scores. The music itself is not what you might expect for two outrageously over-the-top films filled with such oddness. Although I enjoy soundtrack music I am no music critic nor do I possess enough study/knowledge of music to be able to describe it well but this is simply put beautiful music. The very first track alone is one of the most sad yet touching pieces of music I've ever heard and captures the mood of BLOOD FOR DRACULA perfectly. It is a crying shame that this CD is now out-of-print.

Starting with this post I will be making both a MP3 version as well as a lossless FLAC version available for download. In the past I have always only done MP3 but I have almost everything I have posted to date in both FLAC and MP3 so today I will do both and slowly over time I will eventually go back to the older postings and add FLAC versions as well for your download pleasure.

As per my usual methods the CD was ripped with EAC to the FLAC format. I then used foobar2000 to create the 320 CBR MP3 version. Both downloads include the EAC made LOG file and CUE Sheet file. Both include high quality artwork scans.

Today I bring you the scores to EMANUELLE & THE LAST CANNIBALS plus ZOMBI HOLOCAUST. Both scores are by Nico Fidenco and are together on a single CD that was released in 1996 by Lucertola Media (catalog code "LMCD 006"). Please note that the USA release of ZOMBI HOLOCAUST (affectionately known as DR. BUTCHER M.D. - MEDICAL DEVIATE) has a completely different score that was put in place by the American distributor and that is NOT present on this CD release (nor am I aware of it ever being made available).

Also included in the download are large TIFF images of the CD artwork along with smaller JPG images (such as the cover presented above) plus I embedded the smaller JPG image into each track so that you get a nice thumbnail image on your software/hardware player.

Dario Argento's OPERA

Dario Argento's OPERA aka TERROR AT THE OPERA (1987) is a movie that I consider his swan song. It is (to date) the last great Argento film and one where he seemingly tried to cram in all his trademarks from the convoluted storyline with a memory of a past event that isn't 100% clear to the wild kinetic camera work with some nice murder set-pieces for us gore hounds to the music ... this time by Goblin member Claudio Simonetti (along with a whole host of other composers and even some classical music).

There are basically two versions of the soundtrack and I present them both now for your enjoyment.

The first is a Japanese release (Cinevox SLCS 7156) that surprisingly has none of the Claudio Simonetti music on it but has most of the other music from the film including two great tracks by Bill Wyman & Terry Taylor and like the soundtrack to PHENOMENA this is the best stuff in the movie.

Lambero Bava's DEMONS & DEMONS 2

In 1985 Lambero Bava, son of the great Mario Bava, hit a home run with the film DEMONS aka DEMONI and then again (though to a lesser extent) in 1987 with DEMONS 2. Today I present you with two different soundtracks to the first film and the (singular) soundtrack to the second film.

DEMONS (Standard Version)

First up is what I call the standard edition of DEMONS. This version has several "rock" songs that were used in the movie along with original music by Claudio Simonetti. Now I found this on a private bit torrent website and no real information was given about it but what I find interesting is that no such version exists that is as "complete" as this is. There was a Japanese CD release (super duper mega rare) and then another CD on an Italian label. My guess is that this is a compilation of sorts made from those two CD releases. I say that because the sound quality is excellent so it appears to be from CD quality audio yet again no single CD exists that has all of these tracks. Here is the track list:

Again the information was pretty non existent about this but given the excellent sound quality and the track listing it seems clear to me that this is taken from the Japanese CD release with catalog code "Apollon BY 32 40" (a 2000 release that is now sadly out-of-print). Today I bring you the soundtrack to Dario Argento's NON HO SONNO aka SLEEPLESS (2001) with music by Goblin. This is a CD that came out in 2001 by Cinevox (catalog code: CD MDF 342 DK). This is a very special re-union of sorts as this features, for the first time in a long time, the classic Goblin line-up of Agostino Marangolo, Fabio Pignatelli, Claudio Simonetti and Massimo Morante. Unfortunately they managed only to get this one soundtrack done before breaking up yet again (the band still exists but with a slightly different line-up that most noticeably does not include Claudio Simonetti).

First let me say that this cannot hold a candle to the old stuff. This is no masterpiece ala Suspiria or Profondo Rosso. Having said that it is very solid and still has that Goblin sound and is overall a very good score. While not as good as "the old stuff" it is still very good and a definite must for all Goblin fans.

The Cat O' Nine Tails

Previously I had posted the scores to Dario Argento's THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE and FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET (both by Ennio Morricone). Well finally I am now completing what is called Argento's Animal Trilogy by posting the 2nd film IL GATTO A NOVE CODE aka THE CAT O' NINE TAILS (1970 or 1971 depending on the source). Again this score is by the great Ennio Morricone and this CD is the 2006 release by GDM (catalog code: GDM CD Club 7037) which is the longest version of this great score and is considered to be complete.

Please note that I originally ripped this using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. I used LAME 3.98.2 with the "-b 320" setting which basically creates a 320kbps CBR MP3 file which is the highest quality MP3 that can be made. I have included the LOG and CUE files from EAC so that you know the ripping was done correctly and of course this facilitates burning back to a standard music CD if you so wish. I also threw in a M3U playlist file.

Today I present you with the soundtrack to he Mario Bava film TERRORE NELLO SPAZIO aka PLANET OF THE VAMPIRE (1965) with music by Gino Marinuzzi Jr.

This is a 2003 Italian CD release on the DIGITMOVIES label (catalog code: Digitmovies CDDM007) and this score features one of the earlier use of synthesizers. It is a rare gem.

Today I present the GOBLIN soundtrack to the Joe D'Amato movie BUIO OMEGA (1979) aka BEYOND THE DARKNESS. The CD is a 2008 Cinevox release (catalog code CD MDF 631) and is the most complete version of the score ever released.

For some reason this doesn't yet exist on the SOUNDTRACK COLLECTOR website but I have requested that it be added. I'm not going to bother to list the tracks because they all have pretty much the same name (see image above).

Alien Contamination

Today I am posting the GOBLIN score to the Luigi Cozzi film ALIEN CONTAMINATION (1980) aka CONTAMINATION. The version I have is the 1996 Cinevox Japanese CD release (catalog code SLCS-7148) which has a total of 11 tracks and is the complete soundtrack but I suppose I should point out that there is a 2000 Cinevox Italian CD release that has 5 bonus tracks which are basically alternate takes of existing cues as opposed to all new never before heard music. One thing that is a bit interesting is that the GOBLIN line-up has changed through out the years but most of us think of Claudio Simonetti, Agostino Marangolo, Massimo Morante and Fabio Pignatelli. This is the core group that did Profondo Rosso, Suspiria, Dawn Of The Dead and Non Ho Sonno aka Sleepless (their short lived reunion). Also all but Marangolo were together for Tenebre and Phenomena was at the very least Simonetti and Pignatelli (I have never been able to get a complete list of GOBLIN members for this release but I suspect it wasn't just these two). I have no intimate knowledge of the band or their process of creating music but I always got the sense that Simonetti was one of the driving forces if not THE man in the group. He is the only one (to the best of my knowledge) that ever did anything of note outside of GOBLIN (i.e., he scored several movies including various scores for several Dario Argento productions such as DEMONS, OPERA, THE CARD PLAYER and LA TERZA MADRE). However interestingly enough the CONTAMINATION score is missing Mr. Simonetti yet seems no worse for his exclusion and somewhat surprisingly (at least to me) I have heard many GOBLIN fans call this their favorite album by the group. While I agree that this is a damn fine score I wouldn't go so far to call it their best and in case you are curious my personal favorite is DAWN OF THE DEAD although I will concede that SUSPIRIA is truly a masterpiece and their best work yet I find myself listening to DAWN OF THE DEAD more than any other GOBLIN album. In fact now might be a good time to mention that I have compiled a complete CD collection of all George A. Romero soundtracks and will probably be posting them all (along with DAWN OF THE DEAD of course) sometime next month. However back to THIS post which is CONTAMINATION ...

BRAINDEAD aka DEAD/ALIVE

So far I've only posted soundtracks that I own myself and have ripped myself. This is partly due to the fact that I have a nice selection to work with and I am a bit of a quality nut. In other words if I do the ripping myself I know it has been done properly. However I can't own everything that is ultra cool so today I am presenting something that I found on my internet travels: The soundtrack to the Peter Jackson film BRAINDEAD aka DEAD/ALIVE (1992) with music by Peter Dasent. I recently came across a nice CDRip of this score and I couldn't be happier as this one has eluded me for years.

The CD in question is a German release with catalog code "QDK Media CD 006" and was released back in 1992. Oddly enough I have a few other CD soundtracks on this same German label but was never able to track down this particular CD release by them. They must not have made very many of them.

The download I got was in the APE format which is a lossless format similar to the FLAC format (which is how I always rip my CD discs). As per my usual methods I have created 320kbps CBR MP3 files which are the highest quality one can make for the MP3 format. No EAC type LOG file nor CUE Sheet file here. I did create a M3U playlist file. I have also included the original scan which is a very high quality JPEG of the CD artwork (digipack packaging). I then created a cover only image (as seen above) plus I embedded this cover only image into each track so that you get a nice thumbnail image on your software/hardware player.

This film is easily Soavi's masterpiece and the last of the great Italian horror films (unless Argento surprises us since but his output post OPERA aka TERROR AT THE OPERA has been lackluster). TENEBRE

Today I present you with the soundtrack to the Dario Argento film TENEBRE (1982) with music by GOBLIN ... well sort of (note that their names are listed on the CD artwork as opposed to the GOBLIN name). Despite that this basically is often contributed to GOBLIN since it is three of the four usual members. The score is a bit heavy on synthesizers with more electric "fake" drums than real drums (if it even has real drums which I think it does not) but it still manages to be a great soundtrack although it is a different experience from say PROFONDO ROSSO or DAWN OF THE DEAD or SUSPRIA etc.

This is the 1996 release by Cinevox with catalog code CD MDF 302 and is billed as "The Complete Original Motion Picture Sound Track" although Cinevox just very recently (within the last 2 years or so) did a re-release with a different catalog number BUT that re-release is exactly the same other than the packaging. The song list is the same and knowing Cinevox it is the exact same master used for this CD release I am posting now. One last thing I should note: the film is known as SHADOW in Japan and I believe that SHADOW is the literal English translation of the Italian word TENEBRE (sometimes spelled TENEBRAE) yet it was released in the USA with the original Italian title. Go figure.

PHENOMENA or Aren't Insects Ultra Cool?

Today I present you with the soundtrack to the Dario Argento film PHENOMENA (1985) aka CREEPERS. There are two different versions of this soundtrack and I am including both of them here for your enjoyment.

PHENOMENA - The Standard Various Artists edition
This is the version that has "all" of the music and this release is the 1987 release by Cinevox (catalog code CD-CIA 5062). This CD includes tracks by Goblin as well as a variety of other artists. My favorite track from this film is VALLEY by Bill Wyman and Terry Taylor.

Today I present you with the scores to THE EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS (aka EVIL DEAD 3). All of these Sam Raimi films feature a score by Joseph LoDuca. I really don't have much to say here that hasn't already been said about this fun and great trilogy of films so download and enjoy!

THE EVIL DEAD & EVIL DEAD 2

The CD Rip presented here is the Japanese Varese Sarabande SLCS-7198 release from 1993. I originally ripped this using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. I used LAME 3.98.2 with the "-b 320" setting which basically creates a 320kbps CBR MP3 file which is the highest quality MP3 that can be made. I have included the LOG and CUE files from EAC so that you know the ripping was done correctly and of course this facilitates burning back to a standard music CD if you so wish. I also threw in a M3U playlist file.

Profondo Rosso

PROFONDO ROSSO (aka DEEP RED) is a 1975 giallo film by Italian director Dario Argento. Not only is it one of the best giallo films ever made but it is considered by many to be Dario Argento's best film (although some will say that SUSPIRIA is his true masterpiece). Now the music to PROFONDO ROSSO is generally credited to Goblin as well as Giorgio Gaslini but it seems to be difficult to really determine whom did what exactly. In the end all we can really say with any certainty is that some music was written by both parties but all of it was performed by Goblin.

INFERNO

INFERNO is Dario Argento's sequel to SUSPIRIA but this time around he decided to use Keith Emerson for the score instead of Goblin. While SUSPIRIA is often considered the better film Argento still manages to create yet another masterpiece here for this second film in what has become a trilogy (the third film being LA TERZA MADRE aka THE THIRD MOTHER or MOTHER OF TEARS).

As with my SUSPIRIA posting earlier this month I have multiple (in this case two) versions of the INFERNO score.

INFERNO - The Japanese CD release
First up is the 1992 Japanese CD release which came out on the JIMCO Records label (catalog code JICK 89035). This is the "standard" version of the soundtrack with a total of 15 tracks for a running time of approximately 36 minutes making it the shorter of the two versions I am posting today. However this is a Japanese CD release and again some people think the Japanese releases sound superior to other releases. Not sure I buy into that 100% myself but choice is always good!

INFERNO - The Italian CD release
This is the 1997 Italian CD release which came out on the Cinevox label (catalog code CD-MDF 306). This version of the soundtrack has 16 tracks in total for a running time of approximately 46 minutes. The difference here vs. the Japanese release is that there is a bonus track which runs just over 10 minutes. Other than this bonus track the Japanese and Italian CD releases are pretty much identical so if you wish to only download one version this would be the one to get in my opinion.

Cannibal Holocaust

Today I bring you the soundtrack to the 1980 Ruggero Deodato film CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST with music by Riz Ortolani. The main theme is mesmerizing in its beauty but of course that is a stark contrast to the "ugliness" of the film in general. Yes it is true that this is perhaps the most disgusting and vile of movies ... or so say some. I think we can all agree that it certainly is controversial if for nothing else than the film's use of real animal violence. As unfortunate as that may be this is a masterpiece of film making. Yes the inclusion of real animal violence is unfortunate but that should not distract us from the fact that this truly is a work of art. This is a complex movie and there is a lot more going on here than its detractors will have you believe. The music itself is at times beautiful as well as eerie. It's an odd mix but works perfectly for the movie and is a unique listening experience.

The CD Rip presented here is the Coffin Records RSR-0184 release from 2005. I originally ripped this using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. I used LAME 3.98.2 with the "-b 320" setting which basically creates a 320kbps CBR MP3 file which is the highest quality MP3 that can be made. This is a compilation of music from various films by Italian film director Lucio Fulci. SUSPIRIA - Once You've Seen It You Will Never Again Feel Safe In The Dark

Italian horror movie director Dario Argento has made many excellent films but most would say that SUSPIRIA is his masterpiece. Although my favorite Argento film is PROFONDO ROSSO (aka DEEP RED) I must concur that SUSPIRIA is a masterpiece unlike any other and the score by GOBLIN is no exception here as it is their crown jewel in an otherwise amazing body of work (most of which is soundtrack music for other Dario Argento films).

So today I present you with Goblin's Suspiria soundtrack ... or should I say soundtracks! You see I have three different versions of this amazingly scary score and each is somewhat unique so I've decided to post all three for your enjoyment.

SUSPIRIA Soundtrack #1
The first post here is for the 1993 Japanese CD release which came out on the King Records label (catalog code KICP-2721). This is actually the shortest of the three versions as it only has the score "proper" as it was originally released i.e., a total of 8 tracks. I almost didn't include this but some feel that this particular CD has the best sound quality of all ... no doubt in due to the overly anal nature of the Japanese (and god bless 'em for it).

The second post here is for the 1997 Italian CD release which came out on the Cinevox label (catalog code CD-MDF 305). This has the same first 8 tracks as the Japanese CD release but then there are 4 additional "bonus" tracks for 12 tracks in total. If you get only one of the three then this is the one to get! This is the actually the version I listen to whenever I listen to this soundtrack. To my ears the quality is as good as the Japanese release plus you get more music.

SUSPIRIA Soundtrack #3
The third post here is for the 2001 Anchor Bay Entertainment CD release. When ABE released SUSPIRIA they did so in at least 2 if not 3 different packages (I forget now ... sue me). One of the packages was billed as a Limited Edition. The Limited Edition included 2 DVD discs (one with the movie and extras and the other with even more extras). There was also a 3rd disc in the package and that was a standard audio CD of the score. This version of the score also starts off with the same 8 tracks as per the Japanese and Cinevox release. However like the Cinevox released there are additional "bonus" track. Here is where things get complicated and why I wanted to post both this and the Cinevox release. The Cinevox release as 4 bonus tracks or 12 in total. The ABE release has 3 bonus tracks or 11 in total. However the additional tracks do not really match up. They are slightly different. In fact the ABE version, although 1 track shorter than the Cinevox version, is in fact longer than the Cinevox version! Thus the Cinevox and ABE versions are both unique and for the FULL experience you should probably snag both of 'em.

All of the SUSPIRIA CD rips presented here were originally ripped using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. I used LAME 3.98.2 with the "-b 320" setting which basically creates a 320kbps CBR MP3 file which is the highest quality MP3 that can be made. I have included the LOG and CUE files from EAC so that you know the ripping was done correctly and of course this facilitates burning back to a standard music CD if you so wish. I also threw in a M3U playlist file.

I have also included high quality TIFF images of the CD covers although in the case of the ABE release I made a custom cover from artwork included in the booklet that accompanies the release as the CD simply came in the DVD package with no real artwork unlike a standard jewel case type release.

Remember that there are three different download links and each is for THAT version and THAT version alone. Please feel free to download all three to add to your collection.

TORSO or How do you like my hacksaw?

Today I bring you the soundtrack to the 1973 Sergio Martino film TORSO (I Corpi Presentano Tracce Di Violenza Carnale) with music by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis. As for me I am fine with the title TORSO although the alternate title of "Bodies Bear Traces of Carnal Violence" is closer to the original Italian title and one could argue a much better title. However for better or worse TORSO seems to be the English title that has stuck and this is the title used for the USA DVD Video release (currently out-of-print but due to be re-issued in July 2009 by Blue Underground). I have the original Anchor Bay Entertainment DVD Video release and I have to say that I've only watched it once but I definitely liked the movie. In fact having seen several films now by Sergio Martino I would have to put him right up along side such genre greats as Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava etc. and it saddens me that of all his films this (i.e., TORSO) is the only one I have in soundtrack form. I guess I need to make more purchases!

The CD Rip presented here is the DigitMovies CDDM110 release from 2008. I originally ripped this using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. EYEBALL - A Stabbing Nightmare Becomes A Living Terror!

Today I bring you the Bruno Nicolai score to the Umberto Lenzi film EYEBALL (Gatti Rossi In Un Labirinto Di Vetro). The movie is a decent if somewhat cheesy giallo from 1975 and it is a shame that no USA DVD exists (although there is a nice German PAL DVD release with English language). The main theme here is quite memorable and I think this is one you all will enjoy.

A Lizard In A Woman's Skin

One of my favorite movie directors is Lucio Fulci and one of his best films is a giallo entitled A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN (Una Lucertola Con La Pelle Di Donna). The music is by the great Ennio Morricone.

The CD Rip presented here is the Dagored Red 110-2 release from 2000. I originally ripped this using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to the FLAC audio format then I used foobar2000 to convert the FLAC audio files to MP3 files. I used LAME 3.98.2 with the "-b 320" setting which basically creates a 320kbps CBR MP3 file which is the highest quality MP3 that can be made. Welcome to the Terror Xpress !!!

Hello and welcome to my Blog site entitled TERROR XPRESS !!!

Now I've decided to use a sub heading of: A journey into the world of horror, cult and exploitation movies.

Why? Well I love horror, cult and exploitation films ... that's why !!!

My particular love is for euro-horror films especially the Italian genre known as giallo films but of course I like almost all horror films starting with the Hammer films up to the present day. Yes I do sort of like some of the old Universal Monster movies but really for me the best stuff starts off with Hammer and really kicks in during the 1960's and throughout the 70's

For now I will be posting movie soundtracks and nothing more. In the future this may change but I've seen other Blog sites that have done the same and I wanted to do my own. So here you go! I hope you enjoy!
